Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work on Orcas, Lopez, the Outer Islands, or elsewhere in the San Juan Islands?
Yes, we serve clients across Lopez, Orcas, the Outer Islands, and throughout the San Juan Islands. Whether you’re building a new home, remodeling an existing one, or undertaking a community or civic project, our architecture, design-build and construction consulting services cover projects in these regions.

What kinds of green building techniques do you use?
We integrate green building and passive principles whenever the site allows, including high-performance insulation, passive solar design, energy-efficient glazing, and locally sourced materials. Anywhere we work, whether Lopez, Orcas, or any of the San Juan Islands, our projects are always tailored to island micro-climates and environmental conditions.

Do you offer construction consulting and owner’s representative services?
Absolutely. As a firm with design-build experience and with deep roots in the San Juan Islands, we offer construction consulting and take on owner’s representative roles. This includes helping manage scope, schedule, costs, permitting, trades coordination, and modular or remote site logistics.

Can you help with remodeling or upgrading older homes?
Yes, we do remodels and upgrades across Lopez, Orcas, and throughout the San Juan Islands. We combine design-build experience with sustainable, green building strategies (and passive house when feasible) to improve comfort,  energy efficiency, update systems, preserve character, and reduce environmental impact.

How involved are clients in the design & construction process?
Clients are deeply involved. From early planning and feasibility studies through to design, contractor coordination, and final construction, we work together as a team. On Lopez, Orcas, and throughout the San Juans, we believe that early collaboration with clients, trades, and consultants yields better outcomes in terms of build quality, budget control, and performance.
